2019 Honda Pilot and 2019 Toyota Highlander Power & Performance Comparison
Each 2019 Pilot model is powered by a robust 3.5-liter V6 good for 280 horsepower and 262 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2019 Highlander comes standard with a milder 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine, which caps off at 185 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. The Highlander’s optional 3.5-liter V6 (295 hp, 263 lb.-ft.) will bring you about even with the Pilot, but you’ll have to wander far from that starting MSRP to get there.
With that 3.5-liter V6, the Pilot scores a max towing capacity of 3,500 lbs. for 2WD trims and 5,000 lbs. for AWD trims.** The Highlander’s base engine is far more lethargic, offering a max tow capacity of just 1,500 lbs. Again, the Highlander’s V6 will boost you to that 5,000-lb. max tow capacity, but it will cost you a pretty penny.
