The New 2021 Honda Pilot

The New 2021 Honda Pilot
New 2021 Honda Pilot

The Honda Pilot has been around for over five years now, cementing itself as a premier three-row crossover. With the new 2021 Honda Pilot, those years of experience have culminated into something spectacular. Heather Cannon Honda is here to help. Here's what you need to know about the new 2021 Honda Pilot.

New Features for the 2021 Honda Pilot
Most notable of all 2021 features is the nine-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. This feature was premium in previous generations of the Pilot, but now comes standard on all 2021 models. Other features are filtered through specific packages and trims. All trims can be two-wheel drive or all-wheel drive except for the Elite and Black Edition packages. Check to see what we have in stock at Heather Cannon Honda to get a picture of costs for each level of trim.

LX
The baseline Honda Pilot comes standard with adaptive cruise control, Honda Sensing accident-avoidance software, dual-zone climate controls, 18-inch alloy wheels, two USB ports, a traditional audio faceplate, a seven-speaker sound system, and cloth upholstery.

EX
While the LX is a great baseline model, the EX is where the features and cost meet a nice junction.  All EX-models come with automatic headlights, blind spot sensors, an eight-way power driver seat (with front heated seats), a proximity entry, and a push-button start, bundled with a suite of tech goodies. If you're keen on touchscreens, the EX swaps out the traditional faceplate for an 8-inch screen complete with both Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and satellite radio functionality. The All-Wheel-Drive EX models include three traction settings as well: snow, sand, and mud.

EX-L
The EX-L adds a bit more luxury, including a 1st row open/close sliding and tilting sunroof. As well, the cloth seats are replaced with leather seat trim. There are also navigation options available, which include the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System. The system can be hands-free, using only voice activation. As a final perk, you'll get a hands-free power liftgate and second-row sunshades.

Special Edition (SE)
A new mid-level trim for this year is the Special Edition. This trim builds on the previous EX-L and goes a bit further, adding 20-inch black wheels and various touch-ups to the trim. These touch-ups are trim like roof rails, a sharper grille, and front and rear skid garnishes. And for those in the driver's chair, there is now a built-in wireless charging pad, convenient for those who are on the go all the time.

Touring
Add all the previous luxurious features together and keep on going. The new 2021 Honda Pilot Touring comes with 20" machined aluminum wheels and the helpful parking assist feature. Touring's can be customized for seven or eight passengers.

Elite & Black Edition
Finally, there are the Elite and Black Editions of the new 2021 Pilot. These both include all-wheel drive and the previous Touring features. The Elite comes with rain-sensing windshield wipers, while the Black Edition comes with 20" black aluminum wheels. They also come with unique paint coloring options that are unavailable on the other trims, such as Platinum White Pearl.

Safety and Security
The new 2021 Honda Pilot received impressive marks for safety. This is in part due to the Honda-exclusive ACE (Advanced Compatibility Engineering) Body Structure. The ACE structure uses a front frame that helps absorb and deflect energy generated from frontal collisions. Each Pilot trim level comes equipped with 4-wheel anti-lock brakes, airbags, traction control, and stability control. That's not to mention the Honda Sensing Suite.

Honda Sensing includes several systems to help mitigate risk and keep you and your passengers safe. This includes Lane Departure Warnings and a Lane Keeping Assist System that kicks in when your vehicle is going over 45 mph. Adaptive Cruise Control helps limit and maintain your speed while keeping a safe distance from other vehicles.

Finally, there's the Collision Mitigation Braking System and Forward Collision Warning. Using a wave radar attached to the front of your vehicle, your Pilot can sense the speed and distance of vehicles and apply the brakes if there's a risk of collision. Securing an overall five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration, all these features come together in the new 2021 Honda Pilot to ensure that you and those you love are safe whenever you go for a drive.

Fuel Efficiency and Power
Fuel economy is now standard across all trim levels. That's 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, making for a combined 23 mpg in FWD. All-wheel drive lowers that just a touch, with 19 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and a combined 22mpg overall. There's plenty of power in the Pilot. Each comes standard with a 3.5-liter V6 that generates around 280 horsepower with 262 pound-feet of torque.

Ahead of the Competition
The new 2021 Honda Pilot continues to overcome the competition when it comes to cargo capacity, comfort, and convenience. Let's start with the cargo capacity: it's superb. While the cargo capacity with the third row of chairs up is 16.5 cubic feet, there are some special ways the Pilot makes do. First, there's a substantial area beneath the floor. It's long, wide, and available for adding luggage to your trip. Further, because of the Pilot's square frame, there's more area on the sides to include longer items, such as suits, dresses, or miscellaneous tools.

Better yet, the cargo space is two-sided: one carpet, the other textured plastic. This will help keep your dirty items off the interior, while not losing the ability to slide larger items in as well. Next, we've got comfort. The Pilot has always been designed to ride smooth, for everyone, for even the longest of trips. There's ample legroom and, kudos to that boxy design, there's plenty of headroom as well. Finally, the Pilot drives exceptionally. The handling is terrific, the engine is smooth and powerful, and you'll tackle even the worst roads with ease due to the advanced torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive.
