The New 2022 Honda Ridgeline
Introducing the new and improved 2022 Honda Ridgeline. This excellent trunk
is equipped with 280 horsepower and a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that provides a
smooth ride, even on the bumpiest roads. With a nine-speed automatic
transmission, you'll have a standard all-wheel-drive that can take you
anywhere and everywhere you need to go.
The 2022 Honda Ridgeline dimensions are a 125.2-inch wheelbase, 70.8 inches
in height, 210.2 inches long, and a 54-inch truck-bed length. It can be
challenging to notice the main differences between the trims off the bat
with many similarities. We're here to elaborate so you can figure out
what's a better option for you.
A Luxurious Yet Functional Mid-Sized Pick-Up Truck
Since its release in 2006, the Honda Ridgeline has been a beloved model of
pick-up truck sold by Honda. People have shown interest in the Ridgeline
for over ten years because of its sleek design, great features, and towing
capacity.
Compared to the 2021 Honda Ridgeline, many of the features are similar,
like their five-person seating capacity. All four trim levels of the new
Ridgeline feature 18 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway, and 21 mpg
combined. Each trim level of the 2022 Ridgeline comes standard with:
The sleek design will turn heads no matter what color you get, while the
spacious truck bed is functional for working, everyday tasks, and
traveling.
2022 Honda Ridgeline Trim Levels
The 2022 Honda Ridgeline is available in four excellent trims: Sport, RLT,
RLT-E, and the Black Edition. While they're all similar and come with great
standard features, looking into the differences can help you decide which
one is the best choice for your lifestyle.
Sport
The Ridgeline Sport is the first up in trim levels for this vehicle. The
sport comes with 18-inch alloy wheels to keep you secure on the road, even
when you're on worksites or unpaved roads.
You'll have a seven-speaker sound system, LED head and tail lights, and LED
truck-bed lights with this economic trim level. While this is the most
straightforward option, you'll still feel like you have a luxurious truck
with remote entry and a smart lock with walk-away auto locks.
Standout Features:
-
Honda Sensing: Honda's standard safety system helps you
stay alert on the road with a backup camera and notifications when another
driver is in your blind spot or getting too close to someone else. These
features allow you to stay safe and hopefully prevent an accident
-
Apple CarPlay/Android Auto Integration: Staying safe on
the road is vital, and now you can easily listen to music, podcasts,
directions, or answer important calls without having to touch your phone
RLT
The Honda Ridgeline RLT takes all the best features of the Sport and has
several new features that make it stand out even more. The RLT features
heated front seats with beautiful leather trim. You'll have storage space
for your sunglasses, illuminated vanity mirrors, and a two-position memory
driver seat.
Standout Features:
-
Speed-Sensitive Volume Compensation: The faster you
drive, the noises on the truck's exterior will get louder. Speed-sensitive
volume compensation automatically raises the audio volume to compensate for
the loud exterior noise and then lowers it as your truck slows down
-
Automatic Dimming Rearview Mirror: This feature keeps
you safe as you drive at night. The mirror will automatically dim to
prevent you from being blinded by bright lights behind you
RLT-E
Compared to the Honda Ridgeline RLT, the RLT-E is quite similar, but it has
some key differences worth noting. The leather-wrapped steering wheel that
you get with the previous two trims is now heated, which is perfect during
those cold winter days.
Other more luxurious features on the interior of the Ridgeline RLT-E
include illuminated cup holders, blue LED lighting, courtesy door lights,
and programmable remote entry. With the RLT-E, you get enhanced truck bed
features like a truck bed audio system so you can play music while working
or tailgating your favorite sporting event.
Standout Features:
-
Front and Rear Parking Sensors: Whether you're new to
driving a truck or experienced, parking can be tricky if you're in a small
lot. The front and rear parking sensors are there to assist you in parking
safely without hitting another car and leaving you and your passengers to
get in and out easily
-
2.5 Amp USB Charging Ports: The RLT-E has one USB
charging port in the front and two in the back so that everyone can charge
their devices
Black Edition
Last but certainly not least is the Ridgeline Black Edition. This is the
most luxurious option of the four, with all the features that the previous
three trims come with and then some more. The 64-inch 2022 Honda Ridgeline
bed length adds practical use to this luxurious trim option.
The Black Edition comes equipped with BlueTooth technology to keep your
hands on the wheel and eyes on the road at all times, a truck bed audio
system, red ambient lighting inside, LED truck bed lights, and a one-touch
power moonroof.
Standout Features:
-
Wireless Charger: The Black Edition comes with USB ports
for charging devices, but now you can use the wireless charger in the front
of the vehicle while other people use the ports or when you don't want to
deal with them
-
150-Watt / 400-Watt Truck-Bed Power Outlet: If you enjoy
tailgating, then the Black Edition is an excellent option due to the truck
bed power outlet. You can hook up electronics to watch TV or listen to
music while you enjoy your time outdoors
The New 2022 Honda Ridgeline vs. Nissan Frontier
When looking into the various pick-up trucks on the market, it can be
challenging to pick out the differences right away. The Honda Ridgeline is
a standout pickup, but how does it stack up against another popular
mid-sized model, the Nissan Frontier?
Of course, test-driving the 2022 models is the best way for you to
experience the differences between the trucks, but it’s important not to
overlook these features, which may just tip the scales in the Ridgeline’s
favor.
Do you have a family? Consider the Ridgeline’s extra cabin space
Sure, trucks are for hauling heavy loads, but they’re also intended to haul
your family (or friends) around with you. This is especially true when you
buy a model (like the Ridgeline or Frontier) with an extended cab. But some
“extended cabs” aren’t really all that extended.
The Ridgeline seats 5, the Frontier… might. The seating
capacity for the Ridgeline is a solid 5-seater, which means it can easily
accommodate a family of five (or, say, you, a date, and a few dogs in the
back), while the Frontier can accommodate four to five people, depending on
the model and options chosen.
The Ridgeline’s extra legroom is guaranteed. This is
important, because regardless of the “extras” you select with the
Ridgeline, you won’t have to decide whether you want the extra space — it’s
a given. The legroom in the front is a spacious 40.9-inches, and the
legroom in the back is actually comparable to the front, at an impressive
36.7-inches. With the Frontier, the legroom in the back depends on the
model chosen, but even if you go for the larger extended cab, you’re still
maxing out at just 33.2-inches. And while the front legroom for the
Frontier is larger than that of the Ridgeline, it’s only a 1.4-inch
difference, so unless you’re particularly tall, it’s unlikely to make a
difference.
Tall backseat passengers won’t have to worry about headroom in the
Ridgeline.
The front headroom across both trucks is almost exactly the same between
the models (the Ridgeline has an option that adds a little extra room, but
only .2-inches), with the back headroom allowing for more space in the
Ridgeline. So if you’re regularly hauling growing kids, teenagers, or
adults around in your backseat, the Ridgeline makes for the more
comfortable choice.
For long-distance drivers, consider the fuel savings
The 2022 Honda Ridgeline and 2022 Nissan Frontier have very similar
expected gasoline mileage, but not quite the same. And with rising gas
prices, every little bit of efficiency you can gain will help keep money in
your pocket long-term.
City mileage between trucks is almost a tie. For city
mileage, the Ridgeline receives roughly 18 miles per gallon (MPG), while
the Frontier gets 17-18 MPG. It’s close, but the Ridgeline wins out.
For highway mileage, the Ridgeline wins out. Then, for
highway mileage (this is where long-distance drivers need to pay
attention), the Ridgeline gets 24 MPG, while the Frontier, again, ranges
from 22-24 MPG.
While on a day-to-day basis these differences may not seem like a big deal,
if gas costs $4.00 per gallon (and in some areas it costs even more), and
you drive 10,000 highway miles per year, you could end up
saving $150 a year in fuel
with the Ridgeline. And of course, those savings go up as gas prices rise.
Keep your driving simple with All Wheel Drive
Unless you spend a lot of time doing serious off-road driving, chances are
all wheel drive (AWD) is a better option for you than 4 wheel drive (4WD or
4x4). The Ridgeline features AWD while the Frontier provides 4x4. So,
what’s the difference? For standard driving where, based on road conditions
like snow, ice, rain, or an unexpected sharp curve in the road, having AWD
is a big benefit.
The Ridgeline’s AWD is a benefit for inclement weather conditions and
basic off-roading.
Unlike 4WD, AWD is automatic. It’s either always on, sending power
to all four wheels to offer greater control in unexpected conditions, or it
has sensors to automatically determine when one (or more) wheels need
greater power and control, adjusting accordingly. The driver doesn’t need
to think about turning AWD on or off, it’s automated.
The Frontier’s 4WD requires more driver engagement and worse gas
mileage.
On the other hand, with 4WD, the driver determines when more power is
necessary and must switch over to 4x4 driving. These systems tend to add
more cost to the purchase price of the vehicle and also tend to negatively
impact fuel efficiency. Of course, they do offer better traction for
serious off-road conditions, but unless you regularly plan to take your
truck into the mountains to test its durability, it’s quite likely an
unnecessary feature.
The Ridgeline’s AWD is safe and effective for basic off-roading (without
exceptionally tricky terrain), as well as treacherous weather conditions
like snow and ice.
The little details matter, and can really make a difference
The simple truth is, both the Nissan Frontier and the Honda Ridgeline are
solid trucks with a great reputation and high-quality features. So while
little things like backseat legroom and slightly better gas mileage may not
seem like a big deal, the way they impact your comfort and wallet over time
may help boost your satisfaction with your purchase. Because really, who
doesn’t like stretching out a little more on a long road trip?
So when you do end up heading to the dealership to do your test drives, pay
attention to how you feel when crawling in and out of the backseat, and
make sure you feel how the car responds on a sharp curve or slick patch of
pavement. The little details really do make all the difference when it
comes to car-buying.
